6. In the US alone, the play has seen the performance of more than 150 well-known public figuresâfrom Jane Fonda, Cate Blanchett, and Kate Winslet to Susan Sarandon, Meryl Streep, and Oprah Winfrey.
7. A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer (2007) is a collection of essays edited by Ensler and featuring writings by feminist activists (Periel Aschenbrand, Kimberle Crenshaw), celebrities (Anna Deavere Smith, Jane Fonda), and intellectuals (Alice Walker, Maya Angelou, Michael Eric Dyson).
8. Until the Violence Stops (directed by Abby Epstein) functions as a promotional video for the V-Day movement and emphasizes the profound relationship between the play The Vagina Monologues and the cause supported by the campaign. Opening with a montage of the word âvaginaâ shouted in 11 different languages, the film moves on to highlight forms of gendered violence in the United States, Croatia, Kenya, and the Philippines (Jancowicz, 2005). What I Want my Words to Do to You (directed by Judith Katz) features Ensler conducting a writing workshop among women inmates at New Yorkâs Bedford Hills Correctional Facility. Through a series of exercises and discussions, the women delve into their pasts and explore the nature of their crimes and the extent of their own culpability. The film culminates in an emotionally charged prison performance of the womenâs writing by acclaimed actors Mary Alice, Glenn Close, Hazelle Goodman, Rosie Perez, and Marisa Tomei (http://www.pbs.org/pov/whatiwant/film-description/).
